NPR White House Correspondent to Visit Grand Rapids
November 7, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum are pleased to welcome NPR White House correspondent Don Gonyea to Grand Rapids, on Monday, November 17th, at 7:00 pm. Gonyea will speak about his experiences covering the White House as well as his time on the campaign trail with President-Elect Barack Obama.


Michigan Radio Completes Successful Fall Membership Drive
October 27, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service of the University of Michigan, finished a very successful fall membership drive last Friday. The on-air fundraiser, which ran from October 17 – 24, generated over 7400 pledges totaling more than $770,000 from donors across southern Michigan and northern Ohio. Of that, over 3400 pledges came from first time donors to the station, a new all-time high, and a 38% increase in new donors compared to a year ago.


Michigan Radio Airs Special Election Series
October 22, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — With the November elections less than two weeks away, Michigan Radio will examine the issues important to the state and Michigan voters with a special series of news reports airing the week of Oct. 27 - 31. Michigan Radio’s news team will look at some of the key congressional races in the state, and the two statewide ballot issues dealing with stem cell research and medical use of marijuana. The station will also air reports that examine the policies of John McCain and Barack Obama regarding the environment, energy, healthcare, and the arts, and how those policies may affect people in Michigan.


Michigan Radio Appoints New Program Director

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamar Charney to the position of Program Director. Charney joined Michigan Radio in 1997, and has served as Michigan Radio's Interim Program Director since March 2007. Her other roles at the station have included senior producer, on-air host, Managing Editor and Production Director. She helped produce the station's 2007 documentary "Ashes to Hope: Overcoming the Detroit Riots," which won a 2007 national Edward R. Murrow award, as well as recognition from the Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, and several local and regional awards.


Michigan Radio Hosts Election Town Hall Meetings
October 8, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service of the University of Michigan, will be hosting two town-hall style panel discussions dealing with the presidential election. "Election '08's Impact on Michigan: The candidates' positions on energy, the environment, and the economy" will examine how the presidential candidates' policies will affect Michigan. The events will be held in Ann Arbor, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Grand Rapids, on Monday, Oct. 27.


Michigan Radio to Carry VP and Presidential Debates
October 1, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service from the University of Michigan, will air live coverage of the 2008 vice presidential and presidential debates, beginning on Thursday, October 2, with the vice presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri. The presidential debates will follow on Tuesday, October 7, and Wednesday, October 15. Each debate will begin at 9 p.m., with NPR's Linda Wertheimer as the broadcast host.


Michigan Radio to Report from Democratic and Republican Conventions
August 20, 2008

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service from the University of Michigan, will provide exclusive reports from both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. During the week of August 25th, Michigan Radio’s Steve Carmody will report from the Democratic National Convention in Denver. The following week, Michigan Radio reporter Sarah Hulett will be in Minneapolis to provide coverage of the Republican National Convention. Michigan Radio is the only public radio station in the state that will have reporters at either convention.

Michigan Radio Wraps Up Spring Membership Drive

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio station of the University of Michigan, finished a successful Spring Membership Drive last Friday. The on-air fundraiser, which ran from April 4 — 11, generated 4,664 pledges totaling more than $594,000. Of that, over $200,000 was raised from first time donors to the station.

Michigan Radio Named MAB Public Radio Station of the Year

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, the public radio service from the University of Michigan, has been named Public Broadcasting Station of the Year for 2007 by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB). The award was announced Tuesday evening at the Michigan Association of Broadcaster's annual Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference, held in Grand Rapids. This is the fifth year in a row Michigan Radio has been named Public Radio Station of the Year.


Michigan Public Media Welcomes New Staff

Michigan Radio News Director to Accompany UM Delegation to Africa

Michigan Radio introduces Mobile Web Service

ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Radio, in partnership with NPR, has introduced two new services for public radio listeners and web users in Michigan. NPR Mobile from Michigan Radio is a collaboration between the station and National Public Radio that brings news and features from both NPR and the Michigan Radio news team to users of mobile phones and other devices.
